shvarzВсе хочу написать про свои поиски работы в биотехе/фарме, но очень трудно не свести свой собственный неудачный (пока) опыт к беспочвенным обобщениям.
Так что пока вот послушаем бывалого человека (из личной переписки, потому с купюрами и без ссылок):
"Recent launches in both China and India of research CRO's are major competition for [local CRO] (прим: CRO - contract research organisation). As you know, the trend in industry is toward outsourcing much of the investigative and nearly all the development work in drug R&D. Enlisting and maintaining research staff is costly and commits a company to long-term obligation, so they're less prone to go down this path these days.
You read the same news materials I do - lots of programs closing and slashing of research staff. Not the best of pictures for bioresearchers! If you're still inclinded to pursue biotech, I recommend studying up on what companies are looking for these days. For instance, is it pure bioresearch in a for-profit company? Not likely - big pharma is notorious for aligning themselves with small companies with validated targets and indications. And in biotech, early-stage and start-ups look to experienced biotech scientists to get things going. Generally they want to validate a drug target or tech platform, then validate its usefulness in a disease setting, either as a drug target or as a tool to characterizethe disease.
The best employment areas in biotech/pharm are preclinical, and pharmaceutical development and processing."
Я, собственно, примерно то же самое вижу в будущем биотеха. Мне кажется сегодняшние восторги - мыльный пузырь, который очень скоро либо лопнет, либо переродится в нечто совершенно новое. Большинство крупных компаний сделали деньги на коммерциализации уже сделанных открытий, которые лежали на поверхности и затрагивали очень большие группы людей. Дальше начнет работать the law of diminishing returns и тот факт, что наука - дело непредсказуемое. Как только поднакопится статистика, так инвесторы поймут, что biotech - лотерея с очень маленьким шансами и не такими уж большими выигрышами. Настоящая наука тогда из биотеха уйдет обратно в академию, на правительственные гранты, а биотех превратится в поточную индустрию, которая будет лишь тестировать производимые в академии идеи.
